New Year holiday fun in Changsha

For those who've yet to finalize their plans for the New Year holiday, Changsha has a few last might options for those wishing the ring in 2017 in style.

Fireworks at Orange Island

At 8:30 pm on New Year's Day a fireworks display will be held at Orange Island lasting 20 minutes. The best views of the show entitled "Charming City of Changsha" will be from along the banks of the Xiangjiang River.
 

 

Bathing in hot springs at Huitang town

Ningxiang county's Huitang town is famous for its hot springs. The steaming natural pools cover some 48 square kilometers with the highest water temperature reaching 89.5C.

Located at Dawei Mountain in Liuyang, Changsha, the Dawei Mountain Ski Resort is open to visitors on New Year's Day. The resort has different artificial snow tracks suitable for skiers of varying skill levels, stretching almost two kilometers and capable of accommodating 2,000 people at a time.

Visitors will have the chance to see the "Princess", Changsha Sea World's three-month-old beluga whale calf, over the New Year period. It is the first beluga whale to survive more than two months in an artificial feeding environment in China.

 

The whale's parents, Zhuoya and Shula, were sent to Hunan from Moscow in April and December 2010, respectively.
