Changsha-Nairobi Flight Resumed

Updated: 2020-10-15

As the CZ6043 flight started off from Changsha Huanghua International Airport to Nairobi, capital of Kenya, at 1:15 on October 14, the Changsha-Nairobi flight was officially resumed, after an 8-month suspension. It is Hunan’s first regular intercontinental route resumed after the COVID-19 pandemic, operated by the China Southern Airlines.

A round-trip flight on A330 aircraft will be operated every week. It will start off from Changsha at 00:50 every Wednesday, and arrive in Nairobi on 7:05 local time. The return trip will start off at 16:30 Wednesday, and arrive in Changsha at 9:05.

The first flight carried nearly 8 tons of goods, including infrared thermometers and other protective supplies; daily use articles such as clothes and digital devices; and large electric welding equipment. These goods will assist in advancing local resumption of work and production.

The flight operator noted that, passengers from Changsha to Nairobi shall truthfully fill in exit/entry health declaration forms of the Chinese customs, and submit the forms to Nairobi Ministry of Health through its official website to obtain a green health code for entry. Besides, passengers are required to take COVID-19 nucleic acid test 96 hours before boarding, and bring an English certificate of negative result to Nairobi for local inspection. The passenger whose temperature is not higher than 37.5 degree centigrade, and without cough, difficulty breathing, or any other flu symptoms, could be exempted from quarantine observation before entry.

As for the passengers from Nairobi to China, negative test results within three days before boarding are required. The airlines will check the passengers’ health codes or health declarations during check-ins. Chinese passengers with “HS” green health codes will be allowed to board. Foreign passengers could board with the health declarations issued by the Chinese embassies and consulates in their countries.

The Changsha-Nairobi flight opened in June 2019. As the approval of the China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone, this route will accelerate the construction of a leading area for China-Africa in-depth economic and trade cooperation.

At present, Changsha airport has resumed all domestic flights. The Changsha-Bangkok regular flight has been resumed since September.
