Changsha Maglev Line Greets 4th Anniversary of Commercial Operation
The Changsha Maglev Line has entered its 4th year of commercial operation since it began trial operation on May 6, 2016. As of May 5, the Changsha Maglev Line has been operated safely for 1,461 days, with a total of 204,511 trains running on the line, a total operation mileage of 3.8004 million km, and a punctuality rate of 99.91%, according to the Hunan Maglev Transportation Development Co., Ltd.
Approved by the Hunan Development and Reform Commission, the Changsha Maglev Line East Extension Project will start survey and design soon. The 4.3-kilometer east extension line will be linked to the newly-planned T3 Terminal Building at the Changsha Huanghua International Airport. This extension line will enable passengers to transfer to Metro Line 6, Changsha-Liuyang Intercity Railway, Metro Line 10, and Chongqing-Changsha-Xiamen High-speed Railway, and also facilitate the building of an air-rail combined transport super-hub.
China's first 2.0 version of the commercial maglev train ran at a speed of 160.7 kph on the Changsha Maglev Line on the eve of the May Day this year, marking a major success of China's independent maglev technology in the field of medium-speed traffic.
The 18.55-km Changsha Maglev Line, linking the Changsha Huanghua International Airport with the city's south railway station, inaugurated the commercial operation of the first generation train, which ran at a top speed of 100 kph, on May 6, 2016. It was China's first maglev line with independent intellectual property rights.
Over the past 4 years, the Changsha Maglev Line has adjusted its operation schedule for several times. Its operating hours have been extended, which are from 7:00 a.m. to 22:00 p.m. (the last train leaves the airport station at 22:30). The interval between trains has been shortened to 11 minutes and 40 seconds. The efficiency of “air-rail combined transport” has been improved, with a daily maximum passenger flow totaling 16,227.
The Changsha Maglev Line was awarded the "Classic Project to Celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" and “National Quality Engineering Gold Award”.
