Changsha Suspends Flights to Bangkok, Thailand

Updated: 2020-03-18

Due to the grim COVID-19 epidemic situation worldwide, the number of direct flights from abroad to Hunan has decreased. The Changsha Huanghua International Airport announced on March 17 that, flights between Changsha and Bangkok, Thailand will be suspended starting March 16.

At present, the Changsha Huanghua International Airport is the only airport in Hunan with direct flights from abroad linking Changsha and the destinations namely, Osaka in Japan, Vientiane in Laos, and Sihanoukville Autonomous Port in Cambodia. As of March 16, no confirmed imported cases have been reported at the Changsha Huanghua International Airport.

On March 16, a plane carrying 49 passengers arrived in Changsha from Vientiane, Laos. Before passengers got off the plane, customs officers boarded the plane to check passengers' health declaration cards. Passengers were led out of the airport in groups after the procedures of body temperature monitoring, epidemiological investigation, medical investigation, and health quarantine were completed.

On that day, 3 passengers from Jingzhou city, Hubei directly boarded a bus coming from Jingzhou at the airport transfer point after completing information registration. "We flew to Laos from Kunming on January 14, and now we have a special bus to take us home," said a passenger surnamed Li.

"Priority passengers are guided to the airport transfer point first, and the rest can leave the airport directly after completing customs clearance," said Tang Caolin, an international travel inspector with the Changsha Huanghua International Airport Passenger Service Division. She added that, although the number of flights arriving in Changsha from abroad has decreased, the guaranteed service time for each flight has increased. It usually takes 2 to 3 hours for the inbound passengers to complete the whole checking process and leave the airport after getting off the plane.

Statistics from the Changsha Huanghua International Airport show, on March 16, the Changsha Huanghua International Airport had two inbound flights with 81 passengers. And no confirmed cases were found.
