Hunan Issues Consumer Vouchers to Boost Consumption
The one-off consumer vouchers issued by the unions of government agencies, enterprises, and institutions to union members began circulating from April 1. “Consumer vouchers can not only strengthen consumer confidence and encourage consumers to go shopping, but also stimulate the market and benefit retail industry.” Some merchants and shop owners realized the business opportunities brought by increasing passenger flows during the Qingming Festival holiday, after days of depression. Experts predicted that offline consumption will be gradually revitalized as the Qingming Festival and May Day holidays come. The consumer coupons are expected to mobilize 15% of consumers.
The issuance of consumer vouchers is part of the policies of Hunan government to accelerate restoration of production and living on the premise of normalized epidemic prevention and control. These coupons can be used in 340,000 shops where WeChat payment is available. Take Changsha for example, they can be used in 50 chain stores and 56,300 contracted shops, including shopping malls, supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, hotels, entertainment venues, employee canteens, and leisure farms. This will meet consumers’ needs for catering, entertainment, clothing, shelter, and transportation.
