On November 1, Wenheyou Restaurant founder Wen Bin (3rd L) and co-founder Weng Donghua (2nd L) accept the Red Dot trophy.
The 2019 Red Dot Gala award ceremony was held at Berlin’s Konzerthaus recently. Changsha's well-known restaurant Wenheyou won the 2019 Design of the Year Award (Red Dot: Best of the Best).
The Red Dot Award, which was begun in 1955 and is as famous as the “IF Award”, is one of the world’s largest and most influential design competitions. This year it has received more than 8,600 works by thousands of designers from 38 countries.
The old Changsha scene can be seen everywhere in Wenheyou Restaurant.
Mottled green brick walls, barbershops, and stone tables and benches which were often seen in citizen’s house and many other scenes, made Wenheyou Restaurant (Changsha Hisense Plaza) become a big hit on the internet. It has 7 floors with a total area of 20,000 square meters. Other real scenes inside include crayfish pond, flower-pig farm, lottery store, billiard hall, bookstore, photo studio, and even cable cars passing by. Visitors have chance to experience old Changsha street culture and play street games that have hardly seen nowadays. The recreated scenes enable consumers to partake in Changsha’s old lifestyle in the 1980s.
The interior design of this restaurant offers a lovingly recreated scene of an old Asian city. Every single detail, including broken cables and air conditioner units out of commission, has been vividly remodeled. As a successful ernative to familiar and globally identical shopping malls, visitors can here experience the recreation of an authentic atmosphere – an experience that also invites them to connect emotionally to the past, according to the Red Dot award jury.
