Liuyang River National Wetland Park
The National Forestry and Grassland Administration recently announced the acceptance inspection results of pilot national wetland park construction projects in 2020. Changsha’s Liuyang River National Wetland Park passed the acceptance inspection, making it the first national wetland park in Liuyang. So far, Changsha has 5 national wetland parks.
The Liuyang River National Wetland Park was approved by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration for pilot construction in December 2015. The park is located in the east of Liuyang. With Zhushuqiao Reservoir as the main body, it also includes part of Liuyang River; the whole Xiaoxi River; and, part of Daxi River waters and beaches, and some cultivated land on both sides. The total area of the park is 2,361 hectares, including 1423.4 hectares of wetland area, with a wetland rate of 60.29%.
The park underwent national inspection in November 2020. Its good ecology, beautiful scenery, and standard management have won unanimous praise from the expert group.
Wetland has a strong ecological purification function, so it is also known as “the kidney of the earth”. So far, Changsha has 5 national wetland parks. They are:
Liuyang River National Wetland Park in Liuyang;
Jinzhou Lake National Wetland Park in Ningxiang;
Sonya Lake National Wetland Park in Changsha County;
Yanghu National Wetland Park in Yuelu District; and,
Qianlong Lake National Wetland Park in Wangcheng District.
