RV camping is an ideal way to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and enjoy the great outdoors. Whether you want to get closer to nature with a long hike, like the idea of staying in a refurbished shipping container, or just want to relax and listen to birdsong, this list of the best RV campgrounds around Changsha is sure to have something that tickles your fancy.

 

Kuaile Chehang Campground (Guangming village, Wangcheng)

 

 

Kuaile Chehang Campground is located in Guangming village, Wangcheng district, about 12 kilometers from downtown Changsha. It was the first RV camping site to be built in the region and covers a luscious 533 square meters (800 mu) that rests beside an idyllic lake.

 

Visitors have the choice of staying in either a log cabin or an RV, both come furnished with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms.

 

Perhaps the site's greatest draw is its proximity to Asia's largest butterfly house, Butterfly Valley, which boasts more than 100 different species of the fluttery beauties.

 

Other activities include fishing in the nearby lake, a 6.5 km long cycle along a scenic track and two separate hiking trails through the surrounding hills. Both rods and bicycles can be rented from the campground.

Getting there by car: the campground is about 40 minutes from downtown Changsha. First take Dujuan Road, then Leifeng Avenue and turn onto North Guoliang Road until you arrive at Guangming village.

 

Huirun RV Campground

 

 

Huirun RV Campground is located in the dreamy town of Kaihui, Changsha county. RVs and log cabins are fully furnished and come with a living room, bedroom and bathroom.

 

Visitors with a more rugged appetite might want to try staying in a tent, and can choose between one on a raised platform or they can pitch their own down by the lake. It's certainly a great way to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery.

 

Huirun is a wonderful spot to relax, take in some fresh air, and enjoy Hunan's picturesque countryside.

Getting there by car: the campground is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from downtown Changsha. Drive along Sanyi Avenue until you reach Changliu Highway, then turn onto Jingzhu Highway and take North Jiaoyang Road until you arrive at the town of Kaihui.

 

Shuqixing Campground

 

 

Shuqixing is located in Hunan Liuyang Dawei Mountain National Geopark. The campsite boasts a wide range of outdoor activities and is a great spot to escape the heat of the city.

 

This quirky site offers up a whole new meaning to the word camping and visitors have the chance to stay in converted shipping containers, each one is fully furnished with all that you'd expect to find inside an RV.

 

With a wide range of activities from rafting in summer to skiing in winter, for those who are athletically inclined Dawei Mountain National Geopark is a perfect place to spend a weekend. Visitors who enjoy a slower pace of life can wander the trails along Mount Dawei or visit the Taoist Qingyun Temple. Come in May to see azaleas in full bloom.

Getting there by car: the campground is about two hours from downtown Changsha. First, take Highway 106 and change onto the Daliu Highway until you arrive in at Hunan Liuyang Dawei Mountain National Geopark.

 

Green Island Campground

 

 

Located to the south of Changsha in the Mount Feitian National Geopark, Green Island Campground is nestled in the central area of the Geopark and spans 366 square meters.

 

Green Island is a place that integrates leisure, science education and outdoor adventure to create a wonderful all-round camping experience.

Getting there by car: the campground is a five hour drive from downtown Changsha. First, take the Changyong Highway and then the Jingzhu Highway. Continue on Chenzhou Avenue and then take Feitian Road until you arrive Mount Feitian scenic area.
