University students go after online startups

Updated: 2015-04-07

The Internet is becoming an important medium for university students in Changsha to start a business, Hunan Daily reported, citing He Jihua, vice mayor of Changsha, the capital of Hunan province.

Nearly 10,000 university students have opened shops through xyeach.com, an online platform selling Hunan products, said Hunan Daily. Liu Chen is one of them. Liu sells Hunan specialties in his online store and makes a profit of more than 10,000 yuan ($1,615) per month.

During a promotion conference led by the local government, the vice mayor said that Changsha will strive to build leading online enterprises to popularize Hunan products into a larger market. According to Li Bo, the director of Hunan Yunqi Network Technology, the platform has started cooperation with several universities, to encourage more students to join. Hunan Yunqi created xyeach.com under the guidance of the Changsha Municipal Commission of Industry and Information Technology in 2013.
