International Students Donate Blood for Chinese Patient
Mr. Zhang, 38, is from Yueyang, Hunan Province. Recently, he was admitted to the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University for rheumatic heart valve disease. The physical examination showed that Mr. Zhang has a special antibody in his blood: anti-FYA antibodies positive. On the morning of October 30, each of the three medical students from Africa, who passed blood-type compatibility test, donated 300 ml of blood for Mr. Zhang.
It is known that there are only 0.2% of Chinese people positive for such antibodies, while the rate for African students is 90%. At the request of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, the Changsha Blood Center immediately launched an emergency recruitment, to recruit African blood donors through the Rare Blood Type Group. In less than 24 hours, four medical international students studying at the Changsha Medical College responded to the call.
