Hunan Expressway Traffic Flow Surges on New Year’s Day Holiday
The Hunan Expressway Network Operation Monitoring and Command Center announced the provincial expressway network operation report during the New Year’s Day holiday on January 4, 2021. According to statistics, during the three-day holiday, 7.189 million vehicles have passed through the expressway entrances and exits, with an average daily traffic volume of 2.396 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 16.49% compared to last year. The peak occurred on the day of New Year's Day, January 1. The peak hour traffic volume reached 2.589 million vehicles, which was 130% of that of the usual traffic volume.
According to analysis, the holiday weather was generally fine, the public was more willing to travel, and the traffic has increased significantly compared with previous years. With Changsha as the center, four vertical and three horizontal expressways were the main arterial roads. Their traffic flow diverged first and then gathered, forming a tidal and band-based road network operation trend. During the New Year's Day holiday, the ETC utilization rate reached 70.41%, making the congestion delay time of toll stations shortened, the traffic capacity greatly improved, the road network run smoothly and orderly, and the road network did not experience long-term traffic jam.
During the holiday, the provincial total traffic volume of small passenger vehicles on expressways was 5.991 million, accounting for 83.33% of the total. There were 92,000 large and medium-sized passenger vehicles, accounting for 1.28% of the total; and 1.106 million trucks, accounting for 15.39% of the total.
The G4 Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway, G5513 Changsha-Zhangjiajie Expressway, G0421 Xuchang-Guangzhou Expressway, G0422 Wuhan-Shenzhen Expressway, and G55 Erenhot-Guangzhou Expressway were the roads where vehicles had been concentrated, accounting for 66.18% of the total holiday traffic volume.
The toll stations with larger traffic volume were mainly concentrated at the expressways around Changsha, accounting for 20.62% of the total in the province during the New Year’s Day holiday. Among them, the total number of entrances and exits at the Changsha West Toll Station of the Changsha-Zhangjiajie Expressway reached 193,000 vehicles, accounting for 12.42% of the total at the toll stations around Changsha; followed by the traffic volume at the Changsha Toll Station of the Hangzhou-Changsha Expressway, reaching 163,000 vehicles, and accounting for 10.51% of the total at the toll stations around Changsha.
