As a representative of its kind, Liuyang Fireworks was originated from the Tang Dynasty (618-907A.D.) and the Song Dynasty (960-1279A.D.), including firecrackers and fireworks. As early as the Kangxi Period of the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912 A.D.), Liuyang Firework had taken shape and maintained its development till the present day. In 2004, Liuyang Fireworks was registered as a trademark approved by the State Administration of Industry and Commerce.
Liuyang fireworks employs the traditional technique and utilizes such raw materials as handmade paper, potassium nitrate, sulphur, charcoal powder and red and white clay. It has a variety of categories, among which the cold light firework, one that is non-toxic, odor free, low in ignition point and can be touched by hands when burning, is the most popular product of this kind.
At present, Liuyang County, as the biggest base for fireworks manufacture and sale, owns over 800 firework enterprises including 40 export-oriented ones, absorbing more than 70% of the surplus rural labors of the city. Additionally, the firework industry also expedites the development of other industries like mining, paper making, printing and packaging.
