Cheerful Spring Festival Atmosphere at the Ancient town cluster
Jinggang ancient town’s Bayuantang traditional theater stages local opera performances.
During the Spring Festival, a series of activities, “Chinese New Year with Wangcheng Characteristics”, were promoted at Wangcheng District. The local intangible cultural heritage at some typical ancient towns like Jinggang, Tongguan and Xinkang attracted many tourists from all over the country.
Except for the Chinese shadow puppetry of Jinggang town, other activities were also promoted at Wangcheng District during the Spring Festival, such as the celebration, “Welcoming the New Year and Offering a sacrifice to the Kiln God”, at Tongguan town, and the first Hunan cuisine (fish as the theme) cooking contest at Qiaokou town. “Looking for antiquities at Jinggang, tasting fish at Qiaokou, enjoying ceramics at Tongguan, watching plays at Xinkang and reading books at Shutang” have become the standard option for travelling at Xiangjiang ancient towns. In recent years, Changsha has been exploring the cultural deposits of ancient towns, protecting, developing and restoring them. Those ancient towns have become unique travel cards of Changsha.
According to statistics, Xiangjiang ancient town cluster has totally accepted 351.2 thousand visitors during the Spring Festival, with a comprehensive income of 205 million yuan. Especially the intangible cultural heritage, it has become a high point in ancient town travelling.
Except for the Chinese shadow puppetry of Jinggang town, Tongguan kiln, birthplace of underglaze colour porcelain, and Shutang Mountain, hometown of Ouyang Xun, a great calligrapher of Tang Dynasty, Xinkang, called “Drama Town”, also became a key area in protecting and developing the intangible cultural heritage of Changsha. “Tongguan Porcelain City”, “Xinkang Drama Town”, “Qiaokou Fishing City” and “Jinggang Ancient Town”...all those beautiful cards spread out of Wangcheng District, out of Changsha, out of Hunan, even out of China and were distributed all over the world.
