An exhibition showing Changsha’s achievements in building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society (hereafter referred to as ‘Two-oriented’ Society) over the past 13 years was held at the Yingwanzhen Station on Changsha Metro Line 2 on September 27. A Two-oriented Society-themed train was launched simultaneously. Changsha Vice Mayor Peng Nan attended and announced the launch of the themed train.

This publicity activity was planned and organized by the Changsha ‘Two-oriented’ Society Construction Service Center. It aims to display ‘Two-oriented’ Society construction achievements on subway stations and trains with large passenger flow, and promote the civilized, economical, green and low-carbon way of production and life. ‘Two-oriented’ Society introduction, related life knowledge, and beautiful photos of ‘Two-oriented’ communities, villages and schools are displayed on inner walls and electronic screens of the themed train on Changsha Metro Line 2. ‘Two-oriented’ Society themed exhibition boards and culture walls are seen on such subway stations as Yingwanzhen, Guanshaling, and Provincial Government.

In 2007, Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan city cluster was approved as the national pilot zone for building a resource-conserving and environment-friendly society.

Over the past 13 years, Changsha has shouldered its responsibilities to pilot ‘Two-oriented’ Society construction and promoted ecological protection in accordance with the law. A total of 567 industrial enterprises have been completely withdrawn. Ecological restoration has been steadily improved. Solid progress has been made in the Southern Rongcheng Area planning and construction, and a planning system has basically taken shape.

Changsha has carried out ‘Two-oriented’ Society demonstration programs in various fields. A total of 1,056 provincial and municipal demonstration units have been cultivated, and urban quality gradually improved.

Changsha has taken the lead in treating the problem of household kitchen fume at old residential areas. It is estimated that by the end of this year, a total of 228,000 households will get this problem solved.
