Updated: 2020-09-01

Du Jiahao, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee secretary, and Xu Dazhe, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee deputy secretary and Hunan governor, came to the Guanyinyan Toll Gate of the Changsha-Yiyang Expressway Expansion Project to visit the construction workers on August 31, 2020. Secretary Du announced that the expansion project was officially opened to traffic, and the Liling-Loudi Expressway Expansion, Yuanling-Chenxi Expressway, Baiguo-Nanyue Expressway, Yongzhou-Lingling Expressway, Luhongshan-Cili Expressway, and Sangzhi-Longshan Expressway projects started construction simultaneously. Governor Xu made a speech.

Zhang Zongyan, China Railway Group Limited CPC Committee secretary and board chairman, and provincial leaders Hu Henghua, Xie Jianhui, Zhang Jianfei, Yao Laiying, and Chen Fei attended.

The Changsha-Yiyang Expressway Expansion Project is basically parallel to the existing Changsha-Zhangjiajie Expressway Changsha-Yiyang section. It starts from the west of Guanyinyan Reservoir in Wangcheng District, Changsha City, connects to the northwest section of Changsha Ring Expressway, then links the Yinxing Road, and ends at Sujiaba in Heshan District, Yiyang City. It is also connected to the existing Changsha-Yiyang Expressway and the Yiyang Ring Expressway, with a total length of 50.28 kilometers. The trunk line is constructed according to the six-lane expressway standard with a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour. After opening to traffic, it will greatly ease the pressure of traffic congestion on Changsha-Yiyang Expressway.

The project is also the first smart expressway in China that supports autonomous driving. About 30 kilometers of the expansion project Changsha section is equipped with 5G base stations, cameras, and other supporting facilities. This will meet the requirements of autonomous driving road conditions and promote the intelligent connected automobile industrial development of Hunan Province.

The six newly-started expressway construction projects include the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway to Liling-Loudi Expressway Expansion Project, Yuanling-Chenxi Expressway, Baiguo-Nanyue (including Hengshan Branch Line) Expressway, Yongzhou-Lingling Expressway, Luhongshan (on the border of Hunan and Hubei provinces) -Cili Expressway and Sangzhi-Longshan Expressway, with a total mileage of 453 kilometers. They will pass through Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Loudi, Huaihua, Hengyang, Yongzhou, Changde, Zhangjiajie cities, and Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
