The 2019 National Fitness Challenge Day - Healthy Hunan Moves Up Finals were held on the Orange Isle, Changsha on December 1. Amateurs from Hunan’s 13 cities and 1 prefecture competed in front of young Mao Zedong statue, showing their enthusiasm and passion. Wu Guiying, Hunan vice governor, attended and announced the opening of the event.
The first event was a run. Thousands of participants participated despite the bone-chilling temperatures. Twenty visually-impaired runners and their companions were selected by the Changsha Disabled Persons' Federation, and completed the challenge. At the main venue, the city and prefecture champions competed for the provincial championship. There were eight individual challenge projects including plank, table tennis block, and football juggle.
The “National Fitness Challenge Day” is a large comprehensive mass sports event organized by the All-China Sports Federation and undertaken by provincial and municipal sports departments. It is also promoted by various sports media groups. It was started in Hunan in 2013. It has been held nearly a hundred times in 11 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions nationwide, attracting more than 10 million fans.
