China Telecom held a press conference to kick off commercialization of 5G services on October 31. Changsha, as one of China’s first 47 pilot cities for 5G services, was provided with China Telecom’s 5G commercial services on the same day.
Users can use 5G data packages without changing their existing SIM cards nor phone numbers. They only need to switch to use 5G mobile phones, and will automatically connect to the 5G network at the places where the 5G network is available.
The 5G data packages vary in price from 129 yuan to 599 yuan per month. It is a comprehensive upgrade from the 4G ones, with improved basic communications services including data traffic, and more 5G featured applications and 5G membership rights, so that users can fully experience the 5G speed.
So far, all cities, prefecture, and a number of counties in Hunan have 5G base stations. Changsha’s major business circles and CBD core areas including Wuyi Road and AUX Square in Hexi (the western side of the Xiangjiang River), have already been covered by 5G network. The construction of 5G base stations in Changsha’s main urban areas will be completed by the end of this year to achieve full 5G network coverage in the city’s core areas.
