On September 17, a modern agricultural technical training and a hybrid rice technical training for Lao technical personnel opened at Hunan Agricultural University. Twenty-nine agricultural cadres and technicians from the local governments of Vientiane City, Oudomxay Province, Savannakhet Province, and Lao National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute, participate in this 12-day training course.
Hunan and Laos have natural potential for cooperation. In recent years, Chinese and Lao presidents reached a consensus on building a China-Lao community with shared future. Under the guidance of the consensus, Hunan and Laos have achieved remarkable results in strengthening interaction, expanding collaboration, and enhancing friendship. In 2017, the Consulate General of Laos in Changsha was officially set up. This was the first foreign consulate general in Hunan since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Meanwhile, Hunan Province has established, or reached intention to establish, friendly-city/province relations with Vientiane City, Oudomxay Province, and Savannakhet Province of Laos. In June 2018, Boungnang Vorachith, president of Laos, announced the start of the “Hunan tourists visit Laos” activity along with Hunan provincial leaders during his stay in Hunan. So far, more than 10,000 Hunanese have been to Laos.
