Hunan Xiangjiang New Area Signs Cooperation Framework Agreement with Schaeffler Group
On September 6, the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area Management Committee signed a cooperation framework agreement with Schaeffler Group at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Based on Changsha’s industrial cluster advantage and Schaeffler Group’s technical expertise and research and development strength, both sides will promote the construction of China’s intelligent connected vehicle industrial ecosystem.
Hu Zhongxiong, deputy secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee, Changsha mayor, and secretary of the CPC Working Committee of the Xiangjiang New Area of Hunan Province; and Mr. Madis Zinke, chief executive officer of Schaeffler Group’s Automotive Mainframe Division, signed the agreement.
Schaeffler Group is a global well-known supplier of automotive and industrial products. It provides customers with high-precision components and systems in engine, transmission, and chassis applications, as well as rolling and plain bearing solutions for a large number of industrial applications. It began to invest and build production plants in China since 1995 and has now become an important supplier and partner in China’s automotive and industrial fields.
According to the agreement, Schaeffler Group will set up a wholly-owned company in the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area. It will introduce its “Space Drive” technology, a steer-by-wire technology applied to intelligent driving, into the Xiangjiang New Area. It will also develop a Mover system and a 90-degree intelligent steering module to satisfy the needs for different unmanned driving application scenarios in the future.
In addition, Schaeffler Group plans to set up a new research and development center, which is also the Intelligent Driving Vehicle Research Institute, in the Xiangjiang New Area.
As Schaeffler Group’s second research and development center in Greater China region, the new center, with the support of the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, will leverage its industrial clusters and work closely with automated driving companies to improve intelligent driving industrial ecology and related industrial chains in the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area, and build the area into an intelligent connected vehicle industry highland.
