Changsha Delegation Visits New Haven, USA

At the invitation of the New Haven Government, a delegation from Changsha visited New Haven, USA on July 15, 2019.

On behalf of New Haven Mayor Toni N. Harp, Chief of Staff Tomas Reyes, met with the delegates and welcomed them to visit New Haven. He said that in April last year, Mayor Harp led a delegation to Changsha City and signed an agreement with the Changsha government to establish sister-city ties. They made an inspection tour there and were deeply impressed by Changsha's history, culture and economic development.

Head of the delegation Yuan Liming, who is also Changsha Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee deputy director, thanked the New Haven government for its warm reception. He said that the Changsha CPC Municipal Committee and the Changsha Municipal People’s Government attaches great importance to the friendly exchanges between the two cities. Apart from different forms of communication between the two cities’ governments, every year a large number of teachers and students from Changsha’s Xiangya School of Medicine and Yali High School come to Yale University and Foote School in New Haven for study and exchanges.

The New Haven-based Yale-China Association conducts a series of educational and medical exchange programs in Changsha every year. It has brought impetus to the two cities’ urban development and cultural exchanges.

They also had in-depth discussions on further strengthening high-level reciprocal visits and cultural exchanges. In particular, they talked about education, medical cooperation, New Haven commercial development, port construction and operation, and community management.

During their stay in New Haven, the delegates were also invited to visit the Yale-China Association.
