Hunan to Develop Steel-Structure Prefabricated Homes
The Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) recently designated Hunan as a pilot of developing “steel-structure prefabricated homes” for three years. Cities of Changsha, Zhuzhou, Loudi, Shaoyang, and Jishou; Xiangyin County; and, Changde West Dongting Lake Management Area are included in the pilot project.
Hunan takes prefabricated building as a key sector of its 10 major emerging industries, and 20 superior industrial chains, during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020). Hunan’s prefabricated building industry has surged over the past five years. The annual output and comprehensive strength take the lead in China. As of the end of 2018, Hunan had 37.48 million sqm prefabricated buildings. Hunan has a strong steel structure industrial foundation. The annual crude steel output was 23.08 million tons in 2018. There are more than 50 steel structure related enterprises in Hunan, including three national, and six provincial production bases.
At present, Hunan has formulated a pilot plan for developing steel-structure prefabricated homes. According to the plan, a mature technical standard system will be customized. There will be more than five large general contractor enterprises, and more than 10 demonstration projects, of steel-structure prefabricated homes. Hunan will form a green steel-structure prefabricated building industrial cluster.
