There was much buzz on the internet about Changsha during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 4. The extremely crowded Orange Isle, the hot lobster restaurant--Wenheyou with more than 7,000 tables reserved, and the popular local beverage--Cha Yan Yue Se made Changsha a new “Internet hit”.

More than 3.56 million tourist trips were made in Changsha during the holiday, up 25.18% from last year. The tourism revenue reached more than 3.53 billion CNY, up 27.01%. There were over 1.20 million tourists trips made in the city’s scenic spots that were included into the data monitoring system of the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. Ticket sales revenue amounted to about 48.72 million CNY.

Orange Isle, Dawei Mountain, and Liu Shaoqi Memorial Hall received more than 277,000; 309,400; and 115,300 tourists respectively during the holiday. The number of tourists in these spots maintained double-digit or even triple-digit growth. The 2019 Dawei Mountain (Liuyang) Azalea Festival held at the Dawei Mountain National Forest Park attracted a large number of tourists from both inside and outside the province. A growth of 232.69% over last year has been achieved.

During the holiday, Changsha ushered in a self-driving travel peak. More than 60% tourists chose to drive by themselves for village, blessing, ecological sightseeing, and cultural experience tours, or visiting friends and relatives. It became the mainstream of Changsha's tourism market. Tourists’ demand for high-quality accommodation, catering, and entertainment also stimulated the development of Changsha’s catering and entertainment market. Restaurants in city proper were packed to capacity, and the occupancy rate was twice higher than usual.

As Changsha advanced scenic spot construction in an all-round way and integrated agricultural tourism, industrial tourism, and commercial tourism recently, the all-for-one tourism began to take effect. Miyin Temple on Weishan Mountain in Ningxiang, Wenjiashi Memorial Hall in Liuyang, and Baileyuan Amusement Park in Wangcheng became hot tourist destinations for tourists from neighboring cities like Yiyang, Loudi, and Yueyang; provinces like Hubei and Jiangxi; and other places around Changsha for sightseeing and farm work experience.
