Expressways to Be Toll-free During May Day Holiday
Self-drive tours are expected to increase as the May Day holiday is approaching. The Hunan Expressway Network Operation Monitoring and Command Center announced on April 27 that passenger vehicles with seven seats or fewer will be exempt from expressway tolls from 0:00 on May 1 to 24:00 on May 4. It is estimated that the highest passenger traffic on expressways will be on May 4, twice times higher than daily traffic flow.
During the May Day holiday, the traffic flow of Hunan’s expressways will be more than 12.5 million vehicles, an increase of 8.7% year-on-year.
It is anticipated that the following six expressways will cause drivers to slow down due to heavy traffic:
G5513 Changsha-Zhangjiajie Expressway (Changsha-Yiyang Section);
S50 Changsha-Shaoshan-Loudi Expressway (Changsha Section);
G4 Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway (Changsha Section and Xiangtan Section);
G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway (Xiangtan Section and Shaoyang Section);
G0421 Xuchang-Guangzhou Expressway (Xiangtan Section and Hengyang Section); and,
S20 Changsha-Liuyang Expressway (Changsha-Yong’an Section).
