Events Held for 100th Founding Anniversary of R.O.K Provisional Government

A reception was held in Changsha on April 9, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Provincial Government of the Republic of Korea, and the launching of Gyeongsangbuk-do and Hunan cultural exchange activities. Personnel from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Wuhan, the Gyeongsangbuk-do Government, and the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, as well as South Korean in China, participated.
2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Movement (Korean Independence Movement) and the founding of the R.O.K. Provisional Government. A century ago, many Korean revolutionary groups launched active struggles in Changsha for the independence of Korea. Kim Koo, the leader of Korean independence movement, once led the Provisional Government work in Changsha. The working site has been so far preserved well.

“In honor of the historic event, we get together in Changsha, a place where our patriotic martyrs fought for the independence of Korea”, said Kim Young Geun, consul general of the Republic of Korea in Wuhan. Hunan and South Korea has maintained long-standing exchanges. He hoped to take this opportunity to further expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation in social culture, industry, and commerce.
The activities were organized by the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Changsha, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Wuhan. Narrations, musicals, photography exhibitions, and keynote speeches will be staged to tell about the history of the R.O.K. Provisional Government, the Gyeongsangbuk-do Independence Movement, and the struggles of the Korean independence revolutionists.

Hunan and Gyeongsangbuk-do established friendly province-do relationship in Changsha on November 30, 2018. Gyeongsangbuk-do is Hunan’s first friendly province in South Korea.
