March 5 is China’s “Learn from Lei Feng Day”. A 13-day Lei Feng-themed exhibition opened at the Xie Zilong Image Art Center, Changsha, that day.
The exhibition has 4 main areas displaying Lei Feng’s head portrait, videos and photos of him, classic quotes, and derivative products based on Lei Feng, respectively.
Lei Feng’s head portrait was created by Long Yueping, a renowned sculptor in China and also one of the co-curators of the exhibition. It is made of 13,655 cogs, some of which came from 150 construction sites in Hunan.
“Hunan is the place where Lei Feng grew up and the Leifeng Spirit originated from. The work is not only a tribute to Lei Feng, but also an interpretation and a continuation of his ‘Cog Spirit’ (diligence, selfless dedication, and serving the people),” said Long Yueping.
