Hunan Experts to Provide Free Surgeries for Cataract Patients in Sierra Leone

On November 6 (local time in Sierra Leone), the launching ceremony of the 6th China's “Brightness Trip into Sierra Leone” was held at the municipal government hospital in Kenema, East Province, Sierra Leone. And a donation ceremony of medicines and devices was also held there.

Under the leadership of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Sierra Leone, the Health Commission of Hunan Province will organize an experts team for aid. With the help of China's 20th medical aid team, 9 experts from the Second Xiangya Hospital of the Central South University and the Hunan Provincial People's Hospital will carry out free surgeries for hundreds of cataract patients in Sierra Leone. They will also conduct lectures on eye health, and communicate with local medical staff on the related technologies of cataract surgery. At the same time, ophthalmic devices, consumables, and medicines, with a total value of 1.6 million CNY, will also be donated to Sierra Leone.
