Take caution against frozen roads

Updated: 2018-01-10

The monitoring data from the Provincial Meteorological Observatory show that the sharp cooling at night has caused the average minimum temperature in Hunan province and Changsha city to drop to minus 1.3 ℃ and even -3 ℃ respectively from 8:00 a.m on Jan 8th to 8:00 a.m on Jan 9, setting a record low since the beginning of winter . Fortunately, temperature rose quickly as sun broke through. At 2:00 in the afternoon, the temperature in Changsha stood at 10.9 ℃.

Jan 9 is the first day of "Sanjiu period" , the third nine-day period after the winter solstice, the coldest time in most parts of the country. Relevant data have shown that Changsha generally ushers in the lowest temperature of a year in this period, namely mid-late January. Cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, respiratory diseases usually appear in "Sanjiu period" when our body's defense capability is weakened to none, so it is necessary to keep warm.

While keeping ourselves warm, we should also take caution against frost. According to the Provincial Meteorological Observatory forecast, it will be sunny across the whole province from Jan 9 to 12, with the temperature rising to 10 ℃to 12 ℃ in the daytime. However, since the temperature will drop to below zero on the morning and evening of next three days, roads in many parts of Hunan province will be frozen. Fog will appear in western Hunan, posing great traffic safety hazards, so citizens need to be cautious about driving. These sunny days in Changsha are suitable for shopping and drying clothes and bedding. From Jan 13, Changsha will see cloudy days turned to light rain once again, accompanied by drop in its maximum temperature.
