Food safety takes priority

On May 16, 2017 Changsha Food Safety Committee Plenary Session was held on which a notice of 2016 food safety work promotion in Changsha and food safety key points deployment for 2017 was released. Deputy Secretary of Changsha Municipal Party Committee, Mayor and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area Chen Wenhao emphasized that, food safety work should be highly valued to build Changsha a city with safe food, reassured consumption and the most satisfaction, thus to provide a strong support for creating a national center city for the basic modernization. The meeting is presided over by Member of Standing Committee of Municipal Party Committee and Executive Vice Mayor Zhang Yingchun. Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Changsha People’s Congress Zhang Zhiyong and Director General of Changsha People’s Government Zhang Nengfeng attended the meeting.


Over the last year, all relevant departments in Changsha snatched the chance to create a national food safety demonstration city and implement the requirements in four aspects including the strictest standard and regulation and the most severe punishment and accountability. The annual tested food varieties reached 166,000 batches, 98.87% of which was up to standard. Ten specific activities of “regulation for hundred days” will be implemented to promote the quality improvement of small food workshops, and introduce one package management mode including centralized production, cold chains distribution and refrigerated sales, and food safety can be better guaranteed. Statistically, citizens support rate reached 99.28%, food safety satisfaction index reached 69.84%, achieving a 10.6% increase than that before the implementation of creating a national food safety demonstration city.


Chen pointed out that food safety is concerned about public security, livelihood improvement and economic development. Food industry is the industry with consciousness and ethics, and illegal criminal behaviors should be contained and struck. Being focused on areas of food production and processing, school canteens and rural cooperative dinning, a system of food enterprises credited for “reward and punishment” should be built and credit joint punishment mechanism should be set up. Those who break his promise should be restricted in many aspects. Like illegal food enterprises should be punished by department of regulation and management and market. He emphasized that departments at all levels should be in line with four strictest requirements and promote all work creating national food safety demonstration city. To promote standardization and normalization of food production, circulation and operation, to explore and carry out enterprises standard leading system, enterprises should guide products and service quality improvement with advanced standards. Thus, more time-honored Hunan brands will be created.


At the meeting, Changsha food safety committee enterprises discussed on seven plans including Comments on Strengthening Food Safety Work Implementation View of Changsha People’s Government (review draft).
