Changsha and Foton collaborate more on green vehicles
Changsha of Central China's Hunan province has something new to boost its green economy.
Foton Motor officially widens its electric truck production range in Changsha as construction of the Foton Electric Truck and Environmental Equipment Industrial Park started in Changsha National Economic and Technical Development Zone, on Nov 11.
The 5 billion yuan project marks a significant step in green manufacturing for the Beiqi Foton Motor Co, a Beijing-based company which designs and manufactures trucks, buses, sport utility vehicles and agricultural machinery. It is considered so far China’s largest manufacturer in terms of production and sales volume of new energy vehicles.
Based on Foton's current truck production base in Changsha, the Foton Electric Truck and Environmental Equipment Industrial Park will further add and integrate businesses of vehicle chassis, sanitation trucks and sanitation equipment.
Changsha's top leaders, including Party Chief Yi Lianhong and Mayor Hu Henghua attended the foundation laying ceremony. Hu said on the occasion that Foton's move is highly consistent with the city's strive to build a "two-oriented" society (resource-conserving and environment-friendly) and achieve green growth.
The mayor added that the government will offer favorable development environment and efficient administrative services for the enterprise.
According to Hu, Changsha has made its automobile and spare parts industry a focus in industrial upgrading in recent years and the city has grown into an important automobile production base nationwide.
