‘Sexiest’ footbridge built in Changsha
The pedestrian walkway across Meixi Lake in Changsha was recently completed. In 2013 it was named one of the world’s 10 “sexiest” footbridges by CNN for its sinuous design.
The footbridge is a joint design by John van de Water and Jiang Xiaofei, both from the NEXT architects Beijing. It is inspired by the Chinese knot, a Chinese folk art, and modeled after the Möbius strip, a never-ending form whose end connects to its beginning.
The bridge stretches 183.95 meters, at a height of 20.425 meters above water. It has three pathways interlaced with one another. Construction work started on June 20, 2014. It takes 10 minutes to walk through the bridge.
It will open to the public later this year.
