Hunan’s 3 World-class Industrial Clusters Thrived in 2020
Since the beginning of the Year of the Ox, Hunan’s enterprises, including Sany, Zoomlion, China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation (CRCHI), and Sunward, are in full production. Over the past month, a variety of star construction machinery worth billions of CNY were delivered from Changsha to foreign construction sites.
During the 13th Five-year Plan period (2016-2020), Hunan has focused on developing manufacturing industry. Three world-class industrial clusters – construction machinery, advanced rail transport equipment, and aero engine – have taken shape.
Hunan has maintained its position as the top in China in terms of construction machinery industrial scale for ten consecutive years. Leading enterprises developed parts R & D and production system. High-grade chassis, engine, oil hydraulic pump, valve, cylinder, and motor were developed and have started mass production. Hunan is China’s largest hydrocylinder producer. Medium- and small-sized parts producers grow rapidly. They contribute to the building of a construction machinery powerhouse, together with the leading ones. According to the data of the Hunan Department of Industry and Information Technology, in 2020, Hunan’s construction machinery industry made a revenue of 256.38 billion CNY, a year-on-year increase of 52.1%.
Rail transit equipment sector shows a growing competitiveness, and becomes the world’s largest industrial cluster in that field. A number of high-end products, such as the world's fastest meter-gauge multiple unit trains, and the world’s first super-capacitor 100% low-floor tram, were developed in recent years. Electric locomotive products have a worldly highest market share of 27%. The National Advanced Rail Transit Equipment Innovation Center, China’s first manufacturing innovation center in rail transit industry, was established in Zhuzhou last November. In 2020, Hunan’s rail transit equipment manufacturing made a revenue growth of 7.7% over the previous year.
As for small and medium-sized aero engine, Hunan has formed a complete industrial chain consisting of complete machine production, power system, key parts and components, key basic materials, and comprehensive aviation service. The major products have a domestic market share of more than 75%. The four-generation vortex axis, and turboprop engine, filled the gap in their fields in China. The landing gear and wheel braking system are used on China’s domestically-built large jetliners. In 2020, the output value of Hunan’s aerospace industry (including Beidou Navigation Satellite System) grew by 15.7% over the previous year.
