On October 29, Baidu, Changsha Municipal People’s Government and Hunan Xiangjiang New Area Administrative Committee reached a comprehensive cooperation based on the Apollo open platform. The three sides will jointly build Changsha into a city that will offer automatic driving-related services. Hu Henghua, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Standing Committee member and CPC Changsha Municipal Committee secretary; Ling Qinjie, member of the Party Working Committee and deputy director of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area Administrative Committee; and Dr. Zhang Yaqin, president of Baidu, attended the signing ceremony.
Hu Henghua said, "The era of artificial intelligence is coming. Whoever seizes the strategic preemptive opportunity will take the initiative to achieve high-quality development and replace old growth drivers with the new ones." Changsha will vigorously promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and fully support Baidu and other well-known enterprises to develop in Changsha.
The cooperation is based on Baidu Apollo's self-driving ecological resources and Changsha's intelligent network industry. It brings Changsha a new name card for its self-driving sharing travel and cooperative vehicle infrastructure system. Baidu Apollo will explore a new mode of intelligent sharing travel in designated areas and open roads in Changsha. The first batch of self-driving taxis in China will be tested and operated in Changsha. It is expected to reach 100 vehicles in 2019. At the same time, Apolon’s unmanned minibuses will also be commercialized in closed-off parks and scenic spots to serve tourists there. In addition, Apollo will also create a smart Apollo bus route to promote the intelligent upgrading of public transportation.
