Changsha airport starts separate cargo handling
The freight depot phase two of Changsha Huanghua International Airport started operation on Sept 14, adhering to the requirements of increasing demand for air cargo handling in the Hunan province capital.
The newly built freight deport is located in Terminal 2, to the south of the phase one. It started construction on Oct 28, 2016. Covering a area of 29,338 square meters, it is expected to handle an annual cargo of 220,000 metric tons.
The second phase of cargo terminal at the airport will be used exclusively for domestic cargoes, while the previous phase one, put into operation in December of 2011, keeps its functionality of handling international cargos and will be enhanced to be used exclusively for overseas goods.

With this, the two phases of deports deal separately with domestic and international businesses, making up for the airport's weakness in air freight development.
In recent years, Changsha has been striving to develop its intelligent manufacturing industry and increasing its presence.
Intelligent equipment such as electric fork-lift trucks, vertical electric tractors and electric transfer trucks, are all introduced into the operation hall to ensure the entire process becomes smoother and faster.
It's also well equipped with self-service information inquiry machine, facilitating consignors to follow the whereabouts of their cargos, combined with public telephones and Wi-Fi access, which is available for free.

Apart from those upgraded equipment, process design adopted in the second phase are more scientific and efficient, greatly improving landing speed and circulation of the cargos.
The whole building is designed in an L-shape, based on the concept of linear working flow, which largely helps shorten the transport time, reduce operations of haulage equipment and cuts down the energy consumed by transporting.
The operation of the freight depot second phase will provide faster and more convenient services to promote the development of aviation logistics and airport economy in the central Chinese city.
