Updated: 2017-05-19

The Changsha Airport Economic Demonstration Zone was approved by the central government on May 17 to expedite Changsha's economic development, according to the Changsha municipal press conference.

The new zone is the 7th state-level airport economic demonstration zone in the country, with a planning area that covers 10 towns, an industrial park, a tariff-free zone and a high-speed railway station.

The area will be built into an aviation and railway hub and a high-tech industry cluster, which will open up Hunan's inland economy and strengthen the province.

"The approval of the zone brings great opportunities to Changsha for further developing its economy and boosting the related construction of projects of the Belt and Road Initiative" said Chen Wenhao, mayor of Changsha.

Chen added that Changsha will carry out a range of measures to guarantee the accelerated construction of the area.
