GAC Mitsubishi Motors R&D Center and Industrial Park Begin Construction
The GAC Mitsubishi Motors R&D Center and Part Industrial Park in the Changsha Economic and Technical Development Zone started construction on October 16. GAC Mitsubishi Motors’ engine project was put into operation that day.
CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Secretary Du Jiahao announced the start of construction, and inspected the engine plant. Provincial leaders Hu Henghua and Chen Fei, and GAC Mitsubishi Motors Chairman Zeng Qinghong, were present.
The R&D center, with a total investment of three billion CNY, is planned to be put into use in December 2020. It is the first Hunan-based automobile R&D institution of a Fortune Global 500 company. It will solicit professionals worldwide, use world advanced equipment, and set up a top-level new energy experimental center, in order to facilitate vehicle localization research and development and fulfill the production and sales target of 500,000 vehicles in 2022. The Industrial Park will have 20 to 30 automobile component producers to provide 90% of GAC Mitsubishi vehicle components.
These two projects will help cut cost and improve GAC Mitsubishi Motors’ competitiveness; optimize Hunan’s automobile industrial layout; accelerate industrial cluster development; and contribute to building Hunan a powerhouse of manufacturing. GAC Mitsubishi Motors’ engine project was put into operation the same day. It took only 18 months to complete plant construction and preparations. Mitsubishi’s most advanced engine technology will be applied, and 50% assemble procedures automated.
Secretary Du appraised GAC Mitsubishi Motor’ contributions to Hunan’s automobile industrial development, and reputed it a model of Hunan’s intelligent manufacturing. He hoped it will further increase investment in Hunan to improve its industrial layout and enrich product portfolio.
Zeng said, GAC Mitsubishi Motors will always pursue high quality, and accelerate project construction. It will further deepen cooperation with Changsha, and Hunan, to expand cooperation content, and consolidate achievements, so as to realize win-win results and common development, and contribute to building Hunan’s automobile industry a new highland in central China.
