Changsha celebrates 35-year sisterhood with Kagoshima
The Central Chinese city of Changsha celebrated the 35th anniversary of a sister-city relationship with Kagoshima, on the southwestern tip of Kyushu Island in Japan, on Aug 25.
The celebration was attended by Zhang Yingchun, executive vice mayor of Changsha, Hiroyuki Mori, mayor of Kagoshima and government officials from both cities.
"The sister-city relationship between Kagoshima and Changsha has been carried out through exchanges and will be enhanced in the future," Zhang said in her speech.
Both cities have achieved fruitful results working together in the fields of economy, trade, culture and personnel training.
It's reported that more than 3,200 Japanese people have visited the Hunan province capital and more than 1,100 Changsha people have visited Kagoshima since the two cities established their sister-city relationship on Oct 30, 1982.

"Both sides cherish the fond relations established over the past 35 years, and we will inject a new impetus to boost the friendly ties from generation to generation and advance mutually beneficial cooperation between our two nations," Zhang noted.
The two cities will deepen bilateral cooperation on culture, education, tourism, and economic and trade in the next five years, according to a new agreement signed at the celebration ceremony.

Mayor of Kagoshima Hiroyuki Mori said in his speech that, "Over the past 35 years, the firm friendship between the two cities has relied on the contributions from the Changsha government and people from all walks of life."
The friendly exchanges not only play an important role in promoting friendship between China and Japan, but also promote the world peace, Mori added.
Leaders from the two cities also planted an osmanthus tree to mark the long-standing friendship.
