Changsha Selected in “List of Best Chinese (Mainland) Cities of Global Images"
The National Garden City Inspection Team conducted a second inspection over Changsha's efforts to build itself into a national garden city during Dec.25-26.
Since 2006, Changsha has been attaching great significance to the greening program. An investment of 13.022 billion yuan has been pumped into the creating of a livable eco-environment for the city. During 2006-2009,the green land of the city increased by 3,415 hectares with the grassland of parks rising by 967 hectares.
Up to the end of 2009, the greening area of the built-up area of the city reached 8,143 hectares and the grassland area of parks amounted to 2,348 hectares with the per capita park green area hitting 9.82 square meters. In addition, the city has stepped up its efforts in the comprehensive environmental control. Five new sewage treatment plants have been established and the rate of harmless disposal of household garbage has reached 100%.
By the end of the 12th Five-year Plan period (2011-2015), the greening coverage rate of the city will strive to reach 40% with the green land rate to increase to 35%. The per capita public greening land area will grow to 12 square meters and the number of comprehensive urban parks will reach 54 in five years.
