“Learn from Lei Feng Day” Marked
March 5 is “Learn from Lei Feng Day”, or “Lei Feng Day”. This day was initiated by Chairman Mao in 1963. Lei Feng remained a cultural icon representing selflessness, modesty, and dedication. And the youth of the country were encouraged to follow his example. In order to learn from Lei Feng and inherit his spirit, a lot of campaigns relating to “learning from role model Lei Feng” were held.
Leifeng Spirit Forum 2019 Opens in Wangcheng
The Leifeng Spirit Forum 2019 opens in Wangcheng District, Changsha, on February 28, to celebrate the upcoming “Lei Feng’s Day” on March 5.
Wangcheng, where comrade Lei Feng was born, grew up, and worked, is a famous cradle of moral models in China.
For more than half a century, Wangcheng people hold special affection for Lei Feng, and carried out various activities to learn from him. “Lei Feng” has become a spiritual core and an important symbol of Wangcheng.
Wangcheng has attached great importance to studying and inheriting Leifeng Spirit, and organized Leifeng Spirit Forum for many consecutive years.
This year’s forum invited Lei Feng’s former comrades-in-arms and friends, representatives of moral models learning from Lei Feng, and experts and scholars from mainstream media, such as People’s Daily, Economic Daily, and China Youth Daily. The participants would share their ideas on how to inherit Leifeng Spirit in the new era.
Media salon and interview tours will be organized to display the inheritance of Leifeng Spirit and flourishing “Learning from Lei Feng” activities in his hometown.

China’s First Leifeng Spirit-themed Restaurant Opened in Wangcheng

March 5, 2019 marks the 56th anniversary of the “Learn from Lei Feng Day”. China’s first Leifeng Spirit-themed KFC restaurant opened in Wangcheng, Changsha, the hometown of Lei Feng, on March 4. It aims to carry forward and inherit the Leifeng Spirit. The restaurant was awarded the title of “Learn from Lei Feng Center” by the Hunan Lei Feng Memorial Hall.

March 5 is China’s “Learn from Lei Feng Day”. A 13-day Lei Feng-themed exhibition opened at the Xie Zilong Image Art Center, Changsha, that day.
The exhibition has 4 main areas displaying Lei Feng’s head portrait, videos and photos of him, classic quotes, and derivative products based on Lei Feng, respectively.
Lei Feng’s head portrait was created by Long Yueping, a renowned sculptor in China and also one of the co-curators of the exhibition. It is made of 13,655 cogs, some of which came from 150 construction sites in Hunan.
“Hunan is the place where Lei Feng grew up and the Leifeng Spirit originated from. The work is not only a tribute to Lei Feng, but also an interpretation and a continuation of his ‘Cog Spirit’ (diligence, selfless dedication, and serving the people),” said Long Yueping.

International Students Learn More about Lei Feng

Crowds of people visited the hall that day to commemorate Lei Feng, a cultural icon symbolizing selflessness, modesty and dedication, and carry forward his spirit.
New Lei Feng-themed Song Sang in Wangcheng
A public performance themed “Together with Lei Feng” was staged by a new troupe of the Chinese Musicians' Association in Wangcheng District, the hometown of comrade Lei Feng. More than 70 performers chorused new Lei Feng-themed song with Wangcheng residents, to inherit and promote Leifeng spirit.
On the morning, five troupe members raised the curtain of the performance with a new song “Together with Lei Feng” at Leifeng Road Community. All the audiences hummed the tunes involuntarily.
On that evening, the troupe staged a high-level performance together with the Hunan Song and Dance Theatre performers at the Lei Feng Theatre, bringing the event to a climax.
This event was organized by the Chinese Musicians’ Association, Hunan Musicians’ Association, and CPC Changsha Municipal Committee Publicity Department, as a part of “people-centered” themed activities focusing on cultural and art innovation.
