Photo Exhibition Marking 40th Anniversary of China-U.S. Diplomatic Ties (Nov.26-Dec.31)

On November 26, more than a hundred precious photos were exhibited in Changsha, Hunan, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and the United States.

The exhibition was firstly displayed at Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University that is a result of China-US medical cooperation. Chen Chunyang, vice president of Central South University, introduced that Xiangya School of Medicine, formerly known as Xiangya Vocational School of Medicine, was founded in 1914. It is the first Chinese-foreign jointly established medical school in China. It has promoted the development of higher education in modern Hunan and even modern China. It has also opened a new path for China-US exchanges and development.

“After the outbreak of World War II, we formed an alliance to fight against imperialism. The memories of those difficult years still exist in Hunan,” said Jamie Fouss, US consul general in Wuhan, at the opening ceremony. He talked about a series of friendly exchanges between US and China in recent years, including the US Ambassador to China visiting Hunan, the cooperation between Yiyang Museum and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and a giant memorial statue of Martin Luther King on the National Mall in Washington carved by Hunan sculptor. He called for both sides to continue to strengthen exchanges in civilization, arts, and products.

“It’s better to see it all. The ‘Hunan story’ of China-US friendship has been told through these wonderful pictures. I hope more and more American friends will visit Hunan and feel its development vitality and the sincere and friendly Hunan people,” introduced by Qiu Aihua, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Hunan Provincial People's Government. In recent years, Hunan and the United States have achieved fruitful cooperation in economy, trade, education, science and technology, culture, and tourism. Sixteen pairs of sister-city relationships have been established between the two sides.
The photo exhibition is hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Hunan Provincial People's Government. It will also be held in Yali Middle School, Hunan Provincial Library, and Xiangya Hospital later. The exhibition will last until December 31.
