Performances scheduled in lead up to Chinese New Year

Updated: 2017-10-25

A rich variety of performances will be staged at the Meixihu International Culture & Arts Center Grand Theater, Changsha city in the next three months to welcome the upcoming Chinese New Year, the theater announced on Oct 22.

The theater will stage 18 artistic shows from countries including China, the UK, the USA, Germany and Slovakia, giving Changsha residents a cultural and artistic feast.

The top attraction will be the musical Bodyguard, which will be performed in Changsha for the first time. It will be performed from Nov 14 to 19 as the last stop of its tour in China.

Based on the 1992 hit movie of the same name starring US actor Kevin Costner and the late US singer-actress Whitney Houston, the story revolves around pop superstar Rachel Marron, who is stalked and employs a bodyguard, Frank Farmer, to protect her. The two develop a relationship as days go by. The musical features popular songs performed by Houston such as the awarding-winning I Will Always Love You.

Apart from 40-plus regular performances, the theater will offer cross talk from Xiha Baofupu (a celebrated youth cross-talk group in Beijing) on Dec 13, and Peking Opera Qingtian Dao on Dec 23, which tells the story of Hai Rui - a Chinese official during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644).

Concerts performed by Slovakian and German orchestras will be held on Jan 2 and 11, 2018, respectively, and the ballet Swan Lake by Russian State Ballet will be staged on Jan 13 and 14, 2018.
