Flash mob promotes arts in Changsha

Updated: 2017-08-02

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), a group of ballet dancers gave an impromptu performance at Changsha's Wuyi Square metro station on Aug 1.

At 7:40 pm, the 10 talented dancers from Meixihu International Culture and Arts Center treated expectant commuters to a rendition of the classic ballet The Red Detachment of Women.

Many passengers stopped to take in the spontaneous performance. "It's the first time I have ever seen a ballet performance at a metro station," said one surprised commuter. "It's such an innovative move to bring high art so close to us down here."

Apart from the flash dance, Meixihu International Culture and Art Center has staged some world-famous ballet shows, including Russian masterpieces, Swan Lake on ice, and French ballet, Beauty and the Beast.

"The center organizes various performances and themed activities for Changsha people to appreciate the world's top-level ballets," said an official of arts center.

The center has said that it will offer discounted tickets so that more ordinary people can get better access to opera, dance, drama and other art forms.
