Changsha releases souvenir metro cards

Changsha Metro released a series of limited edition souvenir travel cards on April 23, promoting local culture and celebrating the metro’s third anniversary.

 

The designs on the travel cards were sketched by local artists and feature the century-old Yuelu Academy in Changsha and Donglin Academy in Wuxi, Jiangsu province.

A total of 880 of 2,000 of the cards have been released so far, on sale for 70 yuan ($10.2) at Wuyi Square metro station.

Collecting commemorative travel cards has become quite popular in cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou, in recent times, creating a market which pushes up their value greatly.

Yue Bing, a member of Changsha Collectors Association said the well-designed cards have a strong cultural feeling and should appreciate in value.

 

Yue has collected many travel cards and newspaper clippings covering Changsha metro. "I want to witness and record the development of Changsha metro and the dynamic city," Yue said.
